Grazing Management in Mojave National Preserve


The National Park Service has extended the public scoping period for an additional 30 days. We are receiving comments on grazing management in Mojave National Preserve through November 28, 2014.

Topic Questions:
1. The Colton Hills grazing allotment overlays the Fenner Desert Wildlif Management Area, indicating potential conflicts with desert tortoise,a species listed for protection under The Endangered Species Act.
2. Desert bighorn sheep have been found in the south Providence Mountains. Are there potential conflicts between cattle and bighorn sheep?
3. Might there be a correlation between cattle grazing and invasive grass populations in the Preserve?
4. Invasive grasses are known to change fire regimes and convert vegetation types.
5. Cattle ranching plays an important, integral role in the historiy of the eastern Mojave Desert.
