Saline Valley Borrow Pits EA

The National Park Service (NPS) is currently accepting comments on an environmental assessment addressing a proposal to reactivate up to six borrow sites along the Saline Valley Road in Death Valley National Park, California.

Under the California Desert Protection Act of 1994, Death Valley National Park acquired additional lands within the park boundaries. As a result, Inyo County continued to be responsible for the maintenance of roads which they maintained prior to the Act. This includes many miles of unpaved road now located within Death Valley National Park. In order to provide for the maintenance of the 84-mile long Saline Valley Road, the park is proposing reactivation of six strategically placed borrow pits for use by Inyo County under special use permit with the NPS.
