Treatments for Cultural Landscapes and Historic Structures of the Light Stations of Michigan, Outer, Devils, Long, and Sand Islands Environmental Assessment

The National Park Service has released a draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for lighthouse preservation efforts at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The EA relates to projects at historic light stations at Michigan, Sand, Devils, Outer, and Long islands.

The public is invited to provide comments on the document by April 29, 2011. These comments will be analyzed and used to inform a historic structures and cultural landscape report (HSR/CLR) currently under development for each of the five light stations. The combined HSR/CLR will guide preservation treatments at the light stations for the next 5-15 years.

The draft CLR/HSR is also available on this web site to provide additional information on the preferred alternative.

We encourage you to comment electronically via this website. You are also welcome to mail comments directly to the park at the address below. Before including your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information in your comment, you should be aware that your entire comment – including your personal identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold your personal identifying information from public review, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
