26883 - Special Events

This is an updated project from FY2009 that covers the issuance of special use permits and allows for park special public events that are short-term activities taking place in the developed area including but not limited to American Indian celebrations, HawkWatch Weekend and Archeology Day.

To eliminate ground disturbance, placement of 20' x 20' tents and stakes have been discontinued. Such large tents cannot be secured (in lieu of tent stakes) by weights. When necessary, and wind conditions permitting), small 10' x 10' ez-up type freestanding tents will be used with appropriately sized weights to secure them.

Event activities call for the placement of tables and chairs upon the lawn surface, temporary food stands, temporary wikiup demonstrations, and temporary 6' x 6' sandboxes used for mock archeological digs.

Until the Nezekaw Terrce archeological inventory can be completed, easy set-up, non-stake tents and light weight table and chairs will be used in areas marked on the map. Due to possible compaction of as yet unidentified resources, cars will not be parked on the grass. If overflow parking is needed, MWAC recommends using the maintenance area or providing shuttle services from the South Unit parking or other off-site parking.
