ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT FOR REMOVAL OF ROCK ADJACENT TO TOUR ROAD AT WILSON’S CREEK NATIONAL BATTLEFIELD

We are pleased to announce that an Environmental Assessment (EA) for removal of rock adjacent to the tour road at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield is now available for a 30-day public review and comment period. Wilson's Creek National Battlefield (Republic, Missouri) has evaluated a range of alternatives and strategies for proposed repairs to the existing tour road at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. Portions (401 linear feet) of an existing road cut and rock overhang require excavation to prevent additional rock falls. The repairs are necessary to ensure the safety of employees and visitors while protecting park resources as provided for in the National Battlefield's enabling legislation, purpose, mission, and goals.

The document is available for review at the National Park Service Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website (PEPC) at http://parkplanning.nps.gov and on the battlefield's web site http://www.nps.gov/wicr. Please submit your comments on the EA on PEPC or you may mail them directly to me at:
