Environmental Assessment to Establish a Service Road
The Superintendent of Fort Union Trading Post NHS announces the availability of an Environmental Assessment (EA) for public review. This Environmental Assessment documents the Natural and Cultural impacts related to the parks need to provide a Service Road to Fort Union. It has been developed in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
In developing this document, the planning team considered the impacts of three alternatives and the impacts of continuing with the unimproved road. The EA reflects the park's preferred alternative, which is to eliminate the existing road and utilize the existing sidewalk for most vehicle use. The preferred alternative will provide vehicle access and eliminate the damage to the Garden Coulee Archeological Site.
Under the National Environmental Policy Act federal agencies are required to solicit public input into the management of their natural and cultural resources. Paper or electronic copies on diskette of the EA are available by request from the park (701-572-9083).
Please submit any comments, suggestions, or questions to Park Superintendent Andy Banta at 701 572 9083, at Fort Union Trading Post NHS, 15550 Hwy 1804, Williston, ND 58801. You may also review the EA and comment directly to the park on this proposal by utilizing the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website (PEPC) at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/.
