Emergency restriction order
Isle Royale National Park has issued a notice of an emergency order banning the discharge of any untreated ballast water within Park waters to the general public. Though the Park believes all ballast water should be treated within the Great Lakes to stop the incursion of aquatic nuisance species this emergency restriction only applies to National Park waters within the boundary of Isle Royale National Park. This action is taken under advisement of our fisheries biologist to prevent Isle Royale from becoming the first Lake Superior locale for viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS).
The emergency order becomes effective on Tuesday, September 18, 2007.
See the attached document for the closure order.
