Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) Shoreline Stabilization for Erosion Control
The National Park Service (NPS) prepared an environmental assessment (EA) to evaluate the impacts of stabilization of the shoreline on the north end of Roanoke Island at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, (Fort Raleigh). This project will protect Fort Raleigh resources and critical infrastructure along approximately 5200 feet of shoreline along Roanoke Islands north shoreline with the implementation of both rock berms and revetments. The EA evaluated four alternatives: a no-action alternative, a rock berm alternative, a rock revetment alternative, and a rock revetment/berm combination alternative (proposed action and NPS preferred). Fort Raleigh analyzed the potential impacts that these alternatives will have on the human environment.
