Raise and Rehabilitate the Seawall at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument FONSI

The National Park Service has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Raise and Rehabilitate the Seawall at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument Environmental Assessment (EA). The FONSI, which describes the selected action and explains why the plan will have no significant effects on the natural, cultural, or human environment concludes the planning and environmental compliance process in the effort to raise and rehabilitate the seawalls.

The EA evaluated the potential impacts of raising and rehabilitating the seawalls on the surrounding environment and suggested alternatives and mitigations. The EA analyzed three alternatives on how best to address future flooding and storm impacts to the seawalls and surrounding areas by raising, replacing, and rehabilitating the five distinct sections of seawall. The EA also analyzed the impacts to the natural and cultural resources, and visitor experience from each alternative.

The process now moves on to the awarding of a contract for project construction, with work expected to begin in the spring/summer of 2026.
