Fall 2024 Public Engagement Comment Report
In a civic engagement newsletter issued through the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) webpage, the NPS described the desired conditions and issues impacting the condition of Teton Park Road, the Taggart Lake Trailhead Parking Area, the Taggart Lake Loop Trail, and the Taggart Lakeshore. Five high-level planning questions highlighted the content of the newsletter and were presented for public consideration. Members of the public were asked to provide input during a 34-day comment period beginning October 18, 2024, and ending November 21, 2024. A public webinar also was held on November 13, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. MST via Microsoft Teams.
A total of 134 correspondences were received from the public. This Pre-National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) Civic Engagement Comment Summary Report provides a summary of the feedback provided during the public comment period. These comments describe the best parts (scenery and recreation) and worst parts (crowds, inadequate parking, and traffic/congestion) of the visitor experience; express opinions regarding the three parking lot options; raise resource issue topics and concerns that should be analyzed during the planning process; and make recommendations regarding improvements to facilities, on trails, and for the visitor experience.
