Sitka Visitor Circulation and Experience Plan Newsletter, Summer 2024

Sitka National Historical Park welcomes all interested persons to participate in the development of its Visitor Circulation and Experience Plan. The purpose of the Sitka National Historical Park Visitor Circulation and Experience Plan is to protect and preserve the park's unique resources while providing visitor access to experience and meaningfully connect with the cultural and natural landscapes.

This plan is needed to address a number of management issues including 1) vehicular congestion and pedestrian crowding near the parking lots and surrounding that degrades the visitor experience and contributes to safety concerns; 2) crowding at key destinations that impacts visitor experience and cultural and natural resource preservation; 3) current infrastructure and facilities that are inadequate to accommodate current and projected visitor use; and 4) visitor crowding along trails that degrades the visitor experience, contributes to resource impacts, and impacts visitor opportunities to connect with cultural and natural resources.

The National Park Service encourages all members of the public and community to play a role in outlining the park's future by sharing their thoughts on key issues and potential management strategies to improve visitor access and experience and protect park resources within Sitka National Historical Park. The project team will consider public input while developing the plan.
