Final Julius Rosenwald and Rosenwald Schools Special Resource Study

The Julius Rosenwald and the Rosenwald Schools Special Resource Study was prepared pursuant to Public Law 116-336 which directed the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a special resource study (SRS) of sites associated with the life and legacy of philanthropist and Sears, Roebuck and Company business executive Julius Rosenwald (1862-1932), with a special focus on the Rosenwald School program, to determine their potential as an addition to the National Park System. The National Park Service prepared the study on behalf of the Secretary.

The SRS evaluates a total of 16 sites- -14 sites identified by Congress in the study legislation and two additional sites- - individually and collectively using established criteria for evaluating the national significance, suitability, feasibility, and need for direct NPS management. Per congressional directive, the study team also evaluated the suitability and feasibility of a visitor center in or near Chicago, Illinois.
