Bright Angel Trailhead Area Design Plan

As described in the attached file below, the National Park Service (NPS) is in the initial stages of developing a design plan for the Bright Angel Trailhead area on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Several thousand day hikers, overnight hikers, mule riders, shuttle bus riders, and rim walkers pass through the Bright Angel Trailhead area on a typical summer day. This volume of visitors with their multiple and often competing uses creates congestion and confusion in this popular area on the South Rim. The trailhead layout does not provide a sense of arrival commensurate for a primary trailhead at a major national park, nor does it function effectively for visitors. Visitors have difficulty finding their way through the area and there are no restrooms close by. For these reasons, as elaborated on in the attached file below, NPS has initiated a planning and design process for this area (File 2, below) that would address these issues, creating a more visitor-friendly and functional area, appropriate for a premier trailhead in the National Park system.
