Public Review - Robert F. Kennedy Stadium Demolition Environmental Assessment

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comments on the environmental assessment (EA) for the demolition of the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium (RFK Stadium). This EA looks at the impacts that would occur from the NPS providing authorization to the District of Columbia, through Events DC, to demolish the RFK Stadium. The public is invited to review the EA and share comments from Oct. 10 to Nov. 9.

The EA evaluates the environmental impacts and mitigations of either leaving the stadium in disrepair or demolition. The stadium, which opened in 1961, has not been used as a sports and entertainment venue since 2019.

The land on which the RFK Stadium is located is administrated by the NPS as part of Anacostia Park - therefore the NPS conducted an EA to evaluate impacts to its land. However, the stadium is owned by the District of Columbia and the responsibility for operating and managing the stadium has been given to the Washington Convention and Sports Authority (Events DC).
