Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Proposes Increased Fee at White Pine Backcountry Campground

EMPIRE, MI. - Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is soliciting public comment for a proposal to increase the price of nightly camping at White Pine Backcountry Campground from $10 to $13. Individuals who hold an Interagency Senior or Access Pass would continue to receive a 50-percent discount on camping fees charged at the campground. No other entrance fees or standard amenity fees are proposed for change.

White Pines Backcountry Campground will be placed on recreation.gov to make campsites reservable. The increase in fees is meant to cover the costs of adding sites to the R1S reservation system and paying the service charges to the reservation contract. We do not anticipate any significant change in the revenue at the park level after the reservation service fees are paid.

The public can submit comments at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/. The comment period will be open until Wednesday, November 1. Comments may also be submitted through the mail to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, ATTN: SLBE Fee Increase, 9922 Front St., Empire, MI 49684.
