Henkle Farm House Site Demolition Environmental Assessment

The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to demolish five structures associated with the Henkle farmstead at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park located in a wooded area on Schoolhouse Ridge South about a mile South of Rt. 340 along Millville Road in Jefferson County, West Virginia.

The structures are in a severe state of disrepair and pose a serious safety hazard to visitors and staff. Through this project, the NPS will remove the structures while leaving the foundations and any contributing cultural landscape features in place, including ornamental trees, shrubs and flowers. By removing these buildings, the existing landscape will more closely resemble a battlefield cultural landscape of 1862 (Battle of Harpers Ferry).
