Camping Management Plan and Environmental Assessment
The National Park Service (NPS) has released the attached Camping Management Plan and associated Environmental Assessment for the Federally-adminstered section of the Lower Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway, from St. Croix Falls/Taylors Falls to Stillwater, Minnesota. At present, there are few restrictions on camping in this popular reach of the Riverway. The plan has been developed in response to concerns about human waste, shoreline and island erosion, and protecting the rights of private landowners along the Riverway. It presents alternative strategies for adressing these concerns and an analysis of their potential environmental impact. It also serves as a conduit for informing the public and soliciting input in this decision-making process. In short, the document provides information needed by the NPS to make a sound management decision regarding camping use at the Lower Riverway.
NOTE: The document is a large file and may require lengthy download times for some users. A limited number of hardcopies and electronic copies on compact disc are also available from the Riverway. To request a copy, call Kevin Iverson at 715-483-2273. The document has also been distributed to public libraries in St. Croix Falls, Osceola, Somerset, and Hudson, all in Wisconsin, and Taylors Falls, Marine-on St. Croix, and Stillwater in Minnesota.
