Construct Fire Station at Big Cypress National Preserve Headquarters Complex Environmental Assessment

The Environmental Assessment (EA) to Construct a Fire Station at Big Cypress National Preserve Headquarters Complex analyzes the proposed action to consolidate the wildfire program to a new location. This project entails constructing an approximately 5,000-square foot Fire Operations Center (FOC) building, 4,000-square foot Emergency Operations Center (EOC) building, and associated facilities and driveways on 16 acres of land adjacent to the BICY Headquarters Complex off US Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail) in Ochopee, Florida. Construction of the FOC would occur in the immediate future while the additional structures are planned for future construction.

In addition, a Floodplain Statement of Findings for the proposed action is appended to the EA for public review.

This EA and Floodplain Statement of Findings (Appendix B) are undergoing formal public and agency
review for 30 days (17 April to 17 May 2023).
