Planning Update and Public Scoping - May 2022

The National Park Service is currently developing a wilderness and backcountry management plan that will provide guidance for managing visitor opportunities, resources, and wilderness character at Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP and backcountry resources and opportunities at Curecanti NRA.

The May 2022 planning update newsletter provides an introduction to the organization of the draft backcountry and wilderness management plan, a summary of management strategies and actions proposed in the draft plan and analyzed in the associated environmental assessment, topics carried forward to detailed analysis in the environmental assessment, and a timeline for the remainder of the planning project.

The draft wilderness and backcountry management plan is scheduled to be released for public review in summer 2022.
