Visitor Contact Station to Tanalian Trail System Pedestrian Access Trail

An Environmental Assessment evaluating the development of a 0.6 mile trail on parklands and improvements to a 0.3 mile segment of existing trail connecting the Visitor Contact Station to the Tanalian Trail System in Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. The primary purpose and need of the proposed project is to provide direct pedestrian access to the Tanalian Trail System over NPS lands, and avoid an active runway, community roads, and multiple-use trails occupying easements through private lands in Port Alsworth. Currently, the Tanalian Trail System is accessed via community roads and several multiple-use trails, with trailheads that begin on private land and occupy easements through Tanalian Incorporated land. Conflicting uses, user safety, and trail maintenance issues affect the existing trails. The National Park Service's preferred alternative proposes to construct 0.6 miles of trail and improve 0.3 miles of existing trail on NPS lands. Comments are open from April 21, 2022 through May 6, 2022.
