Record of Decision/Proposed Rule Press Release January 2021

The National Park Service has released an amended Record of Decision (ROD) for the Gulf Islands Personal Watercraft (PWC) Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement. The amended ROD, which was signed by the NPS Regional Director of the South Atlantic Gulf Region (Interior Region 2), concludes the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process by selecting the preferred alternative (alternative D) in the Final EIS, along with one element from alternative C (PWC are allowed to land on Horn and Petit Bois islands) for implementation. The amended ROD can be viewed online at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/guis-PWC-EIS.

Implementation of the selected alternative in the ROD requires a revision to the existing PWC regulation at the Seashore. The proposed regulation for PWC management at Gulf Islands National Seashore has been published in the Federal Register, which initiates a 60-day public comment period.

You may submit comments on the proposed regulation, identified by the Regulation Identifier Number: (RIN) 1024-AE55, by any of the following methods:
