Watergate Wetlands Restoration Project Environmental Assessment

This document, the Watergate Wetlands Restoration Project Environmental Assessment (EA), describes all aspects of the proposal to restore wetlands, floodplains, and a stream at the Watergate Recreation Site. It describes the current condition of the site, and analyzes the consequences of not taking action (the "No-Action Alternative") with the consequences of taking action (the "Proposed Action/Preferred Alternative"). The analysis compares the impacts to natural resources, cultural resources, and visitor use and experience of the no-action alternative versus the proposed action alternative.

The National Park Service is seeking public review and comment on the EA, including any changes or alternatives that would help the National Park Service (NPS) better meet the requirement to restore wetlands, and any changes or improvements needed to the analysis in the EA. The NPS is simultaneously seeking public review and comments on a Memorandum of Agreement regarding adverse effects to cultural resources that would occur if the project is implemented. The Memorandum of Agreement is Appendix C of the EA.
