Valles Caldera National Preserve - General Management Plan / Development Concept Plan

Valles Caldera National Preserve » Valles Caldera National Preserve - General Management Plan / Development Concept Plan

This is the Valles Caldera National Preserve's General Management Plan / Valles Grande District Development Concept Plan project website. The National Park Service will use this website to display public information throughout the course of this planning process. Meeting dates and locations will be posted here, along with project updates. Public input is vital to the plan, and we hope you will take the time to engage with us on this planning effort!

General management planning is required for each unit of the national park system. It defines the direction for resource preservation and visitor use and experience and serves as a foundation for decision-making. It also outlines management activities and development.

The draft plan was developed by an interdisciplinary team, in consultation with federal agencies; tribal, state, and local governments; other interested parties; and the general public. In addition, the planning team used scientific and scholarly information related to existing and potential resource conditions, visitor experiences, environmental impacts, and relative costs of alternative courses of action.

Project Update:

The public comment period closed on August 31, 2025, and the planning team is now reviewing all comments. We anticipate a final plan and decision document in early 2026, which will be posted here.

A virtual public meeting was held on August 13, 2025, a recording of the meeting may be found here: https://youtu.be/BahyycyFPjQ.

Thank you for your interest in the future of Valles Caldera!
