Bicycle Use on Stud Horse Trail Network

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area » Bicycle Use on Stud Horse Trail Network » Document List

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input regarding the completed environmental assessment analyzing the potential impacts of bicycle use on the Stud Horse trail network. The Stud Horse trail network includes Skylight Arch Trail and the Stud Horse trail segments. At this time, these trails are open only to hiking.

The environmental assessment considered impacts of mountain bikes and Class-1 e-Bikes on the trail network. Additionally, the BLM Kanab Field Office and the BLM Arizona Strip Field Office participated in the environmental assessment as cooperating agencies to assess impacts to segments of the network managed by both offices. A segment also crosses property held by Canyon Equity, LLC, a partner in the trail network.

The addition of trail-capable bicycles would increase recreational opportunities in the region. The proposed changes would take effect around March 30, 2025.

The NPS encourages public participation throughout the NEPA process, during which the public has two opportunities to formally comment on the project: once during initial project scoping and again following release of the Environmental Assessment.

The project is releasing the environmental assessment for public input. Comments may be submitted here or by mail to:
