Firing Range Lead Remediation at Ridgeland Firing Range

Natchez Trace Parkway » Firing Range Lead Remediation at Ridgeland Firing Range

The National Park Service (NPS) announces the availability of the Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) Report for the Ridgeland Firing Range (Site) for public review and comment. NPS operated the Ridgeland Firing Range from approximately 1984 to 2002 and it is located along the Natchez Trace Parkway in Canton, Mississippi.

NPS is responding to the release or threatened release of hazardous substances into the environment at the Site pursuant to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and consistent with the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP). Under CERCLA, a non-time critical removal action (NTCRA) is being conducted at the Site based on NPSs determination that a planning period of six months or more is available before removal activities must be initiated.

As part of the NTCRA process, NPS prepared an EE/CA to fully characterize the nature and extent of Site contamination, identify pathways of migration, evaluate associated potential threats to public health, welfare, and the environment, identify relevant cleanup requirements, develop a range of cleanup alternatives, and identify a recommended removal action for the Site.

The National Park Service welcomes written comments from the public on the EE/CA Report, the proposed removal action, and on the Administrative Record File. The public comment period is open from April 3, 2026, through May 3, 2026.

The updated Administrative Record File, including the EE/CA Report, is available for review on this site and during normal business hours at: Natchez Trace Parkway Visitor Center, 2680 Natchez Trace Parkway Tupelo, MS 38804
Hours: Monday - Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
