Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area (CRNRA) is holding a public scoping meeting for the Environmental Assessment (EA) of the proposed bicycle/pedestrian bridge and related trails at Morgan Falls. The meeting will be held at the Chattahoochee Nature Center Gymnasium on Thursday, April 30, 2009 from 7 – 9 p.m.

Description:
This is the first of two public meetings regarding the proposed project. It is intended to be informational, and solicit public input and comments regarding the project. A second public meeting will be held later this year, most likely in September, to review the alternatives addressed in the EA.

The Sandy Springs Conservancy (SSC) has engaged the professional services of Jordan Jones & Goulding to conduct the EA for the benefit of the NPS. Preliminary to this, SSC conducted a bridge feasibility study which identified three potential sites for the bridge, immediately down river from the Georgia Power Morgan Falls hydropower plant. The feasibility study is available on the SSC website (www.sandyspringsconservancy.org). The partners for this proposed project include NPS, SSC, Georgia Power, City of Sandy Springs, Cobb County, and Colonial Pipeline.

If you are unable to attend the public scoping meeting, you may submit comments or questions on the proposed project by mail (Superintendent, Chattahoochee River NRA, 1978 Island Ford Parkway; Atlanta, GA 30350) or electronic mail (chat_superintendent@nps.gov). Please be aware that your entire message, including personal identifying information, may be made publicly available. While you can ask to have your identity withheld, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so. We will always make submissions from organizations or businesses, and from individuals identifying themselves as representatives of organizations or businesses, available for public inspection. The public scoping and comment period is open through May 7, 2009.
