The National Park Service (NPS) has completed a Frontcountry Management Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA) for the frontcountry area of Kenai Fjords National Park (KEFJ), near Seward, Alaska. The purpose of the Frontcountry Management Plan is to provide long-term direction for resource stewardship and visitor use in the park's most accessible area. The plan defines desired conditions for natural and cultural resources and visitor experiences, while addressing challenges related to climate-driven landscape change, shifting visitor patterns, and operational needs. The selected alternative, described in the EA and formalized in a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), includes updated management zones, new strategies for visitor access and interpretation, and expanded opportunities for winter recreation. This plan will guide management of the frontcountry area for the next 15 to 20 years.
