Rehabilitate South Rim Amphitheater and Reconfigure for Accessibility

Black Canyon Of The Gunnison National Park » Rehabilitate South Rim Amphitheater and Reconfigure for Accessibility » Document List

On January 10, 2025, the National Park Service (NPS) will begin a 30-day public comment period for an amphitheater rehabilitation project. The amphitheater is located on the south rim of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (BLCA), immediately east of the South Rim Campground. The amphitheater rehabilitation will remove and replace paved asphalt surfaces, the concrete stage platform, nine rows of bench style seating, and the projection screen and screen support. Post-project, the amphitheater will meet Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards (ABAAS) with a reconstructed and rerouted asphalt access trail and modified seating and acoustics. The project will also install more energy efficient light fixtures that comply with Dark Sky International standards.

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) consultation, the NPS is seeking input on the amphitheater rehabilitation during a 30-day public comment period.
