ANNOUNCING PUBLIC SCOPING ON NEW ALTERNATIVE CONCEPTS

George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) is conducting renewed public scoping on three new alternative concepts for the Fort Hunt Park Site Development Plan Environmental Assessment/Assessment of Effect (EA/AoE). GWMP will host an Open House public meeting on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Fort Hunt Elementary School, 8832 Linton Ln, Alexandria, VA 22308. The meeting is being held so interested public can speak to staff, learn more about the proposed alternative concepts and submit written comments. All are encouraged to attend.

GWMP staff has prepared an update newsletter that overviews the new alternative concepts and updates the public on the planning process. New alternative concepts seek to enhance visitor awareness and understanding of Fort Hunt Park's resources while also sustaining many of the park's existing recreational amenities.

BACKGROUND
This project was initiated in late 2010, with public scoping conducted in early 2011 and an EA/AoE released for review in September 2011. Based on comments received during public review, GWMP determined that none of the previously considered alternatives will move forward as originally proposed. New alternative concepts have been drafted to reflect public comment received. More details about the project are available on the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website at: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/forthunt.

The EA/AoE is being prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969, (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), and other applicable laws, regulations and policies. The planned completion date for the EA/AoE will be determined later this year.
This public scoping period will open on June 13, 2012 and will conclude on July 28, 2012. During this period, the public is invited to identify concerns they may have with the proposed alternative concepts as well as offer suggestions. Written comments can be submitted electronically on this website.
