Dear Interested Party:

Lassen Volcanic National Park is releasing the Lassen Peak Trail Rehabilitation Environmental Assessment (EA) for public review and comment.

The two primary purposes of the Lassen Peak Trail Rehabilitation EA are: (1) to improve visitor access and enjoyment within the Lassen Peak area; and (2) to preserve and restore park natural and cultural resource conditions within the Lassen Peak area. The EA includes three action alternatives and a "No Action" alternative. The park is proposing to rehabilitate the Lassen Peak Trail by rebuilding the entire trail in all action alternatives, but the trail width and the amenities offered along the trail vary among alternatives. Alternatives C and D propose creating 5.5 miles of new trail through wilderness to link the Lassen Peak Trail to the Manzanita Lake area.

Thank you for your interest in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Your participation in the review of this environmental assessment is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Darlene M. Koontz
Superintendent
