Enhance Visitor Use at the Salt Basin Dunes

This document is the final draft of the environmental assessment for a project to add new facilities for visitors to the Salt Basin Dunes. It is available for public comment for 30 days between November 9 and December 10.

The EA analyzes four alternatives, including a no action alternative. Each of the action alternatives would develop an area up to 1 acre in size for new parking spaces for up to 10 cars and 3 recreational vehicles, a vault toilet, a picnic shelter, and interpretive displays describing the natural and cultural history of the dunes.

The preferred alternative would construct the new facilities at a site 1/3 mile west of the existing parking lot on Williams Road. The picnic shelter and vault toilet would be accessible under the Architectural Barriers Act, and an accessible trail 1/3 mile long would lead to an overlook with views of the dunes.
